What this is

You are not selling to a company. You are selling to people deciding on its behalf, each with their own targets, doubts and reputation at stake. Most personas are written from the inside out: a guess about who buys, dressed up in job titles. Most value propositions are written in your vocabulary, so the buyer has to translate them into theirs.

Ours start with conversations. We speak to the people who bought, the people who nearly bought and the people who chose someone else. We come back with what each one was really weighing up, what they are actually comparing you with (including doing nothing), and how they move from first contact to signature. Then we write your proposition back to them in their own words.

The question

“Do you understand me, not just my company?”

Signs you need this

  • Proposals describe your product, not the buyer’s problem.
  • You lose deals and don’t know why.
  • Every person in the buying group hears the same message.

What it covers

Three parts, one stage.

1

Buying personas

Understand the needs, ambitions and pain points of each person in the buying group: what they are accountable for, what a win looks like from where they sit, and who can quietly kill a deal.

You get

A persona per decision maker, and a map of the buying group.

2

Value proposition

Say why you matter to each buyer, in their terms and against what they are really comparing you with: rivals, incumbents, an in-house build or doing nothing at all.

You get

A value proposition per persona, a message house and positioning against the real alternatives.

3

Buying journey

Map how your customers actually decide, step by step, and who is involved at each point, from first contact through to renewal, described from the buyer’s side.

You get

A buying journey map with the moments that matter and what to do differently at each.

How it runs

From first conversation to lasting change.

  1. 01

    Kick-off

We agree the segment, the deals to study and who we need to speak to.

  2. 02

    Buyer interviews

Ten to fifteen conversations with customers, prospects and lost deals over three to four weeks, run by us, so people say what they would not say to you.

  3. 03

    Findings

A findings session with your sales and marketing leads before anything is written up.

  4. 04

    Build and test

Personas, value propositions and positioning drafted, read aloud with sales and marketing, and tested against live deals.

  5. 05

    Map and hand over

A journey mapping session with sales, marketing and account teams, then everything delivered as working documents with a walkthrough for the team.

Who’s involved

  • Your customers, prospects and lost deals, interviewed by us
  • Sales and marketing leads
  • Account teams, for the journey map

Every engagement is shaped around your business. We agree the scope, timing and people with you at the start.

What you get

What you walk away with.

01 Ten to fifteen independent buyer interviews
02 A persona per decision maker
03 A buying group map
04 A value proposition per persona and a message house
05 Positioning against the real alternatives, with proof points
06 A buying journey map with next actions

What changes

Your team stops selling to a job title and starts talking to a person whose problem they can describe out loud, in the buyer’s own words.

In short

Personas built from real buyer conversations, a value proposition for each that stands up against the competition, and a map of the buying journey your team can sell to.
